UFABC reaches 6th position in Nature Index 2016


The Federal University of ABC (UFABC) figured in the sixth position among Brazilian Universities and in third among federal intitutions in the Nature Index 2016 ranking. Compiled by the Nature Publishing Group, this list has originate in a database that brings together scientific papers information published in 68 journals covering life sciences, chemistry, environment and physics. This ranking aims to provide an real time overview of the of advanced production in institutional, regional and national levels. The data is updated monthly with the public disclosure of an annual review. According to Nature Index site, the index selection criteria reflect the daily perception of quality of production of the researchers and not quantitative measures such as the impact factor. The list of publications considered by the bank is a group of highly selective journals in the core disciplines of natural sciences. Although they represent less than 1% of the journals dealing with this research branch in Web of Science of Thomson Reuters, the titles selected by Nature are responsible for about 30% of total citations in publications in the field of natural sciences. The Pro-Rector of Research of UFABC, Marcela Sorelli Carneiro Ramos, said that "the excellent result of UFABC this list confirms and consolidates previous results from other surveys that UFABC appears well placed in performance indices." For her, the recognition in various rankings - with different criteria - leaves no doubt about the path and toward academic excellence that UFABC want to follow.
